Small electrical appliances
Small electrical appliances can be disposed of without additional charge at the recycling centers and via the Red Bins available to the public in the city area.
Retailers are also required to take back small electrical appliances free of charge under certain conditions: Small electrical appliances with an edge length of up to 25 centimeters (e.g., smartphones, toasters, or e-cigarettes) can be returned free of charge at many locations without the need to purchase a new one. Retailers with a sales area for electrical appliances of at least 400 square meters, as well as food retailers (e.g., discount food stores, supermarkets, and drugstores) with a sales area of at least 800 square meters that offer electrical appliances several times a year, are required to take back small electrical appliances. This regulation also applies if the electrical appliance was not purchased from the affected retailer. The take-back obligation applies to both brick-and-mortar retailers and online and mail-order businesses.
What does it include?
- Small electrical appliances include devices whose longest edge length is up to 50 centimeters (less than 50 centimeters).
- Cables (extension cords)
Please note:
- Batteries and rechargeable batteries that are not permanently installed in the device must be removed before disposal! This not only reduces the risk of fire, but is also mandatory by law. These can be returned to all stores that sell batteries and rechargeable batteries, or brought to our recycling centers.
